Six college fraternities at San Diego State University have been suspended after a huge drug investigation that landed some members of three of the fraternities in jail on suspicion of dealing drugs openly on campus. The probe was prompted by the cocaine overdose last year of a freshman sorority member. All tolled, 96 people, 75 of them University students, have been arrested so far during the investigation.

Twenty-nine people were arrested earlier this week in raids at nine locations. Agents found cocaine, Ecstasy, and three guns at Theta Chi. Eighteen of the 19 arrested were wanted on warrants for selling to undercover agents.

Theta Chi and five other fraternities have been suspended pending a hearing on evidence.

Those arrested are charged with dealing drugs, sometimes quite openly, on campus. One fraternity member even sent out a mass text message advertising special prices on cocaine. Those arrested included two students about to receive the following degrees: criminal justice and homeland security.
