Couple Posing as Lottery Winners Rob Elderly Woman

A 79-year-old Orlando woman was robbed of $10,000 by two people posing as lottery winners last week. According to police, the woman was approached by a young Spanish-speaking woman who claimed she had a winning million dollar lottery ticket, but could not cash it due to her immigration status. The victim agreed to help the woman, and was then approached by a young man who said the three of them needed to go to City Hall to collect the prize.

The man and woman told the victim that they first needed to pick up $21,000 in cash from an apartment complex, and then needed an additional $10,000 from the victim to collect the million dollar prize. They drove the victim to two banks where she allegedly withdrew $5,000 from her personal account from each bank.

Before going to City Hall, the young woman said she needed to stop by a drug store. The victim went into the store with the young woman, leaving her money in the van with the man. When she got into the store, the young woman had vanished. The victim then found that the van was gone, too.

If this couple is caught by the police, they can be charged with grand theft felony, which carries a prison sentence and can, and will, ruin this couple's life. However, a good criminal defense attorney can make sure that this couple is represented fairly in the eyes of the law.

If you have been charged with theft in the Orlando or Orange County, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential case evaluation.
