Colorado Attorney Accused in Hit-and-Run DUI

A Colorado attorney who has represented insurance firms for over 20 years has been accused of allegedly running down a bicyclist while drunk last Sunday afternoon. Witnesses report seeing the driver of an SUV travelling down the busy stretch of I-70 near Evergreen, hitting the bicyclist and dragging him. The SUV then drove away, and then turned around where the driver got out, looked down at the injured bicyclist and then drove away.

Police tracked the attorney down in Evergreen since his license plate was allegedly found at the scene. He was arrested in his home and charged with hit-and-run and DUI. He also faces another charge of child abuse since his three children were in the car with him.

If the attorney posts bond, he will reportedly be under very strict pretrial supervision, which includes wearing a SCRAM. SCRAM is a monitoring device worn on the ankle that detects secretion of alcohol through the skin. He will also have to undergo random drug and alcohol testing and would be forbidden to drive.

Driving drunk can have serious consequences. While the cyclist in this case was not killed, he is still in serious condition in a Denver hospital. If the attorney is found guilty of these charges – and perhaps even if he isn’t – his life and those of his children who were with him will be irrevocably changed.

If you have been charged with a DUI, you need an experienced attorney who will fight for your rights every inch of the way. Please contact the DUI defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. We serve clients in the Orange County and Orlando, Florida area, as well as across the state of Florida.
