Traffic Stop Leads to Marijuana Bust

Though it sounds like it could be the plot of some TV show on a cable station on a Thursday, the arrest of two young people driving with a small amount of marijuana lead to a raid on a nudist camp the next day in search for more of the drug.

The couple shared a home with another man, and when police went to the home, they found a secret closet behind a mirror in the master bedroom. Here, Osceola County police allegedly found a number of weapons including a Mac-11 submachine gun and 50,000 rounds of ammunition. Also allegedly found by police were a .50-caliber sniper rifle, two tripod-mounted Browning machine guns, homemade bombs, a live mortar round and launching tubes.

In addition to the weapons, police also found exotic pets, including a tarantula, and an altar containing a ceramic human skull and a voodoo doll stuck with pins. Keep in mind that pet stores not only sell tarantulas, you can find them in the wild in many areas across the South. Voodoo is also a legitimate religion, so if someone within the home was allegedly practicing this, it is perfectly within their Constitutional rights to do so.

However, the biggest issue for the authorities seems to be the marijuana. The two young people claim their housemate gave them the drug just before they were arrested and that the guns were his. The couple waved their right to have an attorney present and directed police to a mobile home at a nudist resort. The couple said their housemate was cultivating 30 to 40 marijuana plants in the mobile home.

The housemate and his girlfriend were arrested when they returned to the house where the guns were found. The girlfriend then led police back to the mobile home.

There were no marijuana plants found in the mobile home, but there were allegedly grow lights and potting soil on the ground. The housemate who was accused of owning all the weapons says he has a concealed weapons permit and a federal license to own automatic weapons. He was charged with production of marijuana and possession of an explosive device. The young couple whose traffic stop started the whole debacle was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.

If you have been involved in a situation like this one, you will need a lawyer with the knowledge and skill necessary to make sure you are treated fairly. Please contact the Umansky Law Firm if you have been charged with a drug offense. We serve the Orange County and Orlando, Florida area, as well as the rest of the state of Florida.
