Woman Caught on Camera Stealing Puppy

An Orlando area pet shop that sells expensive purebred puppies caught the theft of one of them on video. The surveillance footage shows a woman reaching into a cage, picking up a teacup Pomeranian puppy and putting it in her purse. While the store was filled with customers, the owner of the store believes there were several lookouts. At least five people may have been in there to create a distraction while the alleged theft took place. One of the customers told a store employee about what they’d seen and the employee went outside just in time to see the group drive away in a burgundy Ford Explorer.

The alleged thief of this group and some of her accomplices were caught on video and a description of the vehicle is known. On top of this, the theft has been picked up by the media. There is also a reward out for the puppy.

These factors may mean the group will be found fairly quickly and will then be charged with a crime. The owner of the pet store states the puppy is worth $1,300. This could mean a charge of grand theft, a more serious charge than simple petit theft. The difference is five years in prison and a $5000 fine.

While this is the charge, it does not mean the alleged thieves will absolutely wind up in a Florida state prison. With an experienced criminal defense lawyer, they may find themselves still on the street.

If you have been charged with theft in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced theft, fraud, and shoplifting attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential consultation.
