The wife of Sen. Dick Lugar (R.-Ind.) was arrested for driving under the influence after she was involved in a traffic accident in McLean, Virginia last night. She was taken to the county adult detention center and processed. Authorities say they arrested her after initiating a traffic stop.

Sen. Lugar, who is the Senate Foreign Relations ranking member, issued a statement, which included an apology and admitted embarrassment over the accident and, presumably, the drunken driving charge.
