Aggravated Battery Charge Dropped
A recent Umansky Law Firm client was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Battery on a Pregnant Person, related to Domestic Violence. The affidavit alleges that the client and his girlfriend, who was seven months pregnant at the time, were involved in a verbal argument while sitting in a car together. The victim alleges that the defendant then slapped her. She exited the vehicle, called 911, and the defendant was then arrested. The initial appearance judge ordered that the defendant have no contact with the victim.
The defendant then hired the Umansky Law Firm to fight the charges. Attorney Lindsey Gergely filed a Motion to Modify Bond for the defendant and convinced the judge to allow contact between him and the victim while the case was pending. Attorney Gergely spoke the with the State Attorney's Office and over several conversations ultimately convinced them that there was not enough evidence to move forward with prosecution. The prosecutor decided to file No Information on the case and did not go forward with formal charges in the case.
The client is considering rehiring the Umansky Law Firm to have his criminal record expunged so that he will be able to legally deny that he was ever arrested in this case.
If you have been charged with domestic violence in Orlando or Orange County, Florida, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential consultation.

Large Pot Bust on Florida Turnpike
It may not be the largest pot bust in recent Florida history, but this shows that Florida highways continue to be a major way to transport drugs around the state. Police in Osceola County recently conducted a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of 201 pounds of marijuana.
The driver was allegedly driving on expired tags, and could not provide proof of insurance of registration. The police searched the driver's vehicle where they found the marijuana.
Many people believe marijuana to be one of the most harmless of all the illegal drugs. Whatever your personal beliefs are, the fact of the matter is that marijuana is not legal, and therefore you will be charged with possession or trafficking. In fact, prosecutors continue to be actively engaged with many drug cases in the central Florida areas of Osceola, Orlando, and Orange counties. You will be charged with felony possession if you are caught with 20 grams or more of marijuana on you in the state of Florida.
Any drug charge can seriously curtail any future plans you might have. However, an experienced drug offense attorney can help you through this sometimes confusing and frightening time, and will be someone you can count on for legal advice.
If you have been charged with drug possession in Orlando or Orange County, Florida, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential consultation.

Possible Meth Lab Discovered Near UCF
Police were called to an extended-stay hotel near the University of Central Florida after a chemical odor was reported coming from one of the third floor rooms on Tuesday. Authorities investigated and say they evacuated the entire hotel after they discovered what may be a methamphetamine lab in the room. Two men and a woman staying in the room were detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made.
The Orange County Fire Rescue says they are treating it as a suspected meth lab since the call came in as a suspicious liquid. The bomb squad, narcotics squads and a hazardous materials crew were called in. Hotel guests were allowed to return to their rooms later Tuesday with the exception of those on the third floor.
If you have been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine in the Orange County or Orlando Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced drug offense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. We offer an initial and confidential case evaluation.

Taco Leads to Domestic Violence Charge
A Deltona teenager was charged with domestic violence after shoving and smacking his mother on the arm, calling her names and throwing a taco into her face. All these charges were due to his mother coming up to his room after calling up to him to come down to dinner and unplugging his Xbox. This is where her son allegedly shoved her and began calling her names.
The woman was cleaning the kitchen when her son came downstairs to eat. She pushed him to the side to get around him, and the teen then hit and swore at her. He then allegedly threw the taco into her face.
The woman says her son has done this in the past but this is the first time she's made good on her threat to call 911. After he was arrested, the woman went down to the courthouse to try to find someone to evict her son.
Sometimes, in the heat of an argument, people may do things they later regret. It can be especially upsetting when an argument leads to violence against a loved one. And sometimes, this can lead to an arrest, a charge and jail time. In cases like these, you need an attorney who has experience with domestic violence cases.
If you have been charged with domestic violence, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential consultation. We serve the Orange County and Orlando, Florida area, as well as the state of Florida.

Ryan O’Neal Sentenced to Rehab
Actor Ryan O'Neal was ordered to spend the next 18 months in a drug rehabilitation program after pleading guilty to possession of methamphetamine last week. O'Neal and his 23-year-old son, Redmond, were arrested in September after a search of their home in Malibu turned up narcotics and drug paraphernalia. The search was a routine check-up on Redmond after he pleaded guilty last June to drug possession charges. At that time, he was allegedly in possession of heroin and methamphetamine, as well as driving under the influence. He was placed on probation for three years.
Because Ryan O'Neal has no previous record, it was expected that he would be sent to drug rehab. Although the younger O'Neal has a record involving drug possession, he has admitted to a relapse and will most likely see his court-ordered rehab stint extended. Redmond O'Neal will find out his fate in court next week.
While some drug offenders are addicts, many more are people who have never been addicted and have simply been caught while making a mistake. These people may have no idea of the consequences involved with being charged with drug possession. It is for this reason that you need an experienced drug offense attorney on your side who can help you figure out what you can do to minimize the consequences.
If you have been charged with a drug offense in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for a confidential case evaluation.

Couple Posing as Lottery Winners Rob Elderly Woman
A 79-year-old Orlando woman was robbed of $10,000 by two people posing as lottery winners last week. According to police, the woman was approached by a young Spanish-speaking woman who claimed she had a winning million dollar lottery ticket, but could not cash it due to her immigration status. The victim agreed to help the woman, and was then approached by a young man who said the three of them needed to go to City Hall to collect the prize.
The man and woman told the victim that they first needed to pick up $21,000 in cash from an apartment complex, and then needed an additional $10,000 from the victim to collect the million dollar prize. They drove the victim to two banks where she allegedly withdrew $5,000 from her personal account from each bank.
Before going to City Hall, the young woman said she needed to stop by a drug store. The victim went into the store with the young woman, leaving her money in the van with the man. When she got into the store, the young woman had vanished. The victim then found that the van was gone, too.
If this couple is caught by the police, they can be charged with grand theft felony, which carries a prison sentence and can, and will, ruin this couple's life. However, a good criminal defense attorney can make sure that this couple is represented fairly in the eyes of the law.
If you have been charged with theft in the Orlando or Orange County, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential case evaluation.

Charges of Trespass and Resisting Arrest Dropped
A recent Umansky Law Firm Client, who had no priors, went to a night club for the birthday party of a friend. While there, he was attacked by three men for allegedly saying something to a girl. He was tossed out of the club by the bouncers, injuring his arm in the process. While the client was standing outside the club and calling 911, he was thrown to the ground and arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest without violence. The client maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal and refused to accept any negotiations, pushing the matter to trial and forcing the state to dismiss the case.
If you have been charged with a crime in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential consultation.

DUI Charge Reduced to Reckless Driving
A recent Umansky Law Firm client was facing mandatory jail time for a second DUI charge within five years of his first. He was initially pulled over for a malfunctioning taillight. The officer smelled alcohol and began a sobriety check. He was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI.
The Umansky Law Firm attorneys were able to produce a witness who stated the vehicle lights were working perfectly and that the defendant performed well on the field sobriety exercise. The state ultimately offered to resolve the case with an amendment to a reckless driving charge, which allowed the client to avoid incarceration and a five year suspension of his license.
If you have been charged with a DUI in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced DUI defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. We will evaluate your case in an initial and confidential consultation.
