Woman Caught on Camera Stealing Puppy

An Orlando area pet shop that sells expensive purebred puppies caught the theft of one of them on video. The surveillance footage shows a woman reaching into a cage, picking up a teacup Pomeranian puppy and putting it in her purse. While the store was filled with customers, the owner of the store believes there were several lookouts. At least five people may have been in there to create a distraction while the alleged theft took place. One of the customers told a store employee about what they’d seen and the employee went outside just in time to see the group drive away in a burgundy Ford Explorer.

The alleged thief of this group and some of her accomplices were caught on video and a description of the vehicle is known. On top of this, the theft has been picked up by the media. There is also a reward out for the puppy.

These factors may mean the group will be found fairly quickly and will then be charged with a crime. The owner of the pet store states the puppy is worth $1,300. This could mean a charge of grand theft, a more serious charge than simple petit theft. The difference is five years in prison and a $5000 fine.

While this is the charge, it does not mean the alleged thieves will absolutely wind up in a Florida state prison. With an experienced criminal defense lawyer, they may find themselves still on the street.

If you have been charged with theft in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced theft, fraud, and shoplifting attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for an initial and confidential consultation.

41 People Arrested in Denver Meth Ring Bust

Denver police arrested 41 people for their involvement in a meth ring in the north metro area. Authorities say the suspects used women as drug mules and used classic Batman and Superman comics to hide their profits. One hundred boxes of first-edition comics in plastic wrap were seized. It is believed the comics held upwards of $500,000

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers said 19 of the 41 are suspected of violating the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act. Two brothers are accused of being the kingpins of the drug ring and are thought to have brought the drugs from Phoenix. Authorities allege this means the meth is probably from Mexico. They are being held on $1 million bail each.

Officers say the seized quantities of the drug add up to 100,000 doses per month with a street value of $2 million. They believe this seizure will significantly reduce the amount of meth in the Denver area.

Meth is everywhere. Police raid homes on quiet suburban streets looking for labs all across the country. The Orlando area is no exception and has seen its fair share of meth busts. This leads to people accused of dealing, possessing and making the drug, which can then lead to prison sentences, fines, and ruined lives.

If you have been charged with dealing, making, or possessing methamphetamine in the Orange County or Orlando, Florida area, or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced drug offense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm for a free consultation.

A 51-year-old Fitchburg, Massachusetts man climbed through the drive-thru of a local McDonald’s, attacked two employees with a box cutter, tried to tie up one of them with his shoelaces and then took a small amount of money from the fast food joint. The employees say they were busy with other tasks, which is how the man gained entry.

The man fled toward the nearby river and was caught in two feet of water. The two employees were treated for cuts to their hands and face.

Although the man’s situation was not reported, it is no surprise, unless you live in a cave, that many people are having a hard time financially. Extenuating circumstances are often at the root of theft, burglary and shoplifting. While the man allegedly cut these two employees, obviously not a smart thing to do, simply condemning someone for this without hearing their side of the story (mental illness, lapse in judgment, as well as simple desperation) is not what should be done.

It is these types of situations that require a lawyer who understands and has experience with defending people like this man. In the Orange County and Orlando, Florida area, the Umansky Law Firm has experienced criminal defense attorneys who will be sure you are treated fairly and understand the charges against you. Please contact us if you have been charged with theft in the state of Florida.

Colorado Attorney Accused in Hit-and-Run DUI

A Colorado attorney who has represented insurance firms for over 20 years has been accused of allegedly running down a bicyclist while drunk last Sunday afternoon. Witnesses report seeing the driver of an SUV travelling down the busy stretch of I-70 near Evergreen, hitting the bicyclist and dragging him. The SUV then drove away, and then turned around where the driver got out, looked down at the injured bicyclist and then drove away.

Police tracked the attorney down in Evergreen since his license plate was allegedly found at the scene. He was arrested in his home and charged with hit-and-run and DUI. He also faces another charge of child abuse since his three children were in the car with him.

If the attorney posts bond, he will reportedly be under very strict pretrial supervision, which includes wearing a SCRAM. SCRAM is a monitoring device worn on the ankle that detects secretion of alcohol through the skin. He will also have to undergo random drug and alcohol testing and would be forbidden to drive.

Driving drunk can have serious consequences. While the cyclist in this case was not killed, he is still in serious condition in a Denver hospital. If the attorney is found guilty of these charges – and perhaps even if he isn’t – his life and those of his children who were with him will be irrevocably changed.

If you have been charged with a DUI, you need an experienced attorney who will fight for your rights every inch of the way. Please contact the DUI defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm. We serve clients in the Orange County and Orlando, Florida area, as well as across the state of Florida.

Traffic Stop Leads to Marijuana Bust

Though it sounds like it could be the plot of some TV show on a cable station on a Thursday, the arrest of two young people driving with a small amount of marijuana lead to a raid on a nudist camp the next day in search for more of the drug.

The couple shared a home with another man, and when police went to the home, they found a secret closet behind a mirror in the master bedroom. Here, Osceola County police allegedly found a number of weapons including a Mac-11 submachine gun and 50,000 rounds of ammunition. Also allegedly found by police were a .50-caliber sniper rifle, two tripod-mounted Browning machine guns, homemade bombs, a live mortar round and launching tubes.

In addition to the weapons, police also found exotic pets, including a tarantula, and an altar containing a ceramic human skull and a voodoo doll stuck with pins. Keep in mind that pet stores not only sell tarantulas, you can find them in the wild in many areas across the South. Voodoo is also a legitimate religion, so if someone within the home was allegedly practicing this, it is perfectly within their Constitutional rights to do so.

However, the biggest issue for the authorities seems to be the marijuana. The two young people claim their housemate gave them the drug just before they were arrested and that the guns were his. The couple waved their right to have an attorney present and directed police to a mobile home at a nudist resort. The couple said their housemate was cultivating 30 to 40 marijuana plants in the mobile home.

The housemate and his girlfriend were arrested when they returned to the house where the guns were found. The girlfriend then led police back to the mobile home.

There were no marijuana plants found in the mobile home, but there were allegedly grow lights and potting soil on the ground. The housemate who was accused of owning all the weapons says he has a concealed weapons permit and a federal license to own automatic weapons. He was charged with production of marijuana and possession of an explosive device. The young couple whose traffic stop started the whole debacle was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.

If you have been involved in a situation like this one, you will need a lawyer with the knowledge and skill necessary to make sure you are treated fairly. Please contact the Umansky Law Firm if you have been charged with a drug offense. We serve the Orange County and Orlando, Florida area, as well as the rest of the state of Florida.

Son of Michael Douglas Facing Life for Dealing Meth

Cameron Douglas, the 30-year-old son of actor Michael Douglas, was arrested late last month for selling methamphetamine over a three year period. Arrested in Manhattan at the end of July for allegedly delivering over 200 grams of meth through the mail to an informant, police say Douglas has made tens of thousands of dollars by selling the drug. Police allege Douglas shipped the drugs from a hotel in New York to addresses in California. Payment was made in cash.

Douglas has a previous cocaine charge and is now facing ten years minimum for the sale of meth – and possibly life. His incarceration would certainly set an example that not all those who are rich and famous are able to keep out of prison. However, this also sets an example that maybe all those who are dealing narcotics deserve the harshest punishment possible.

Getting charged with possession or sale of drugs is a serious offense in this country. Many people are convinced they’ll get a slap on the wrist because they read about, or know someone, who was given a fine and sent home. However, this is not always the case. If you do not have an experienced drug offense attorney, you may find yourself spending years behind bars when you could have received probation and a treatment plan.

Though Cameron Douglas may be spending a good portion of his life in prison, you do not have to suffer the same fate. If you have been charged with possession or sale of drugs in Orange County or Orlando, Florida or anywhere else in the state of Florida, please contact the experienced criminal defense attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm.

Lawnmower DUI in Illinois

If your license has been revoked due to a drunken driving conviction, it’s best to have someone else drive you, take public transportation, or walk if you need to get somewhere. A 49-year-old man figured it’d be best if he took his riding mower. And, why not? After all, you don’t need a license to drive a riding mower. The problem here is that the man decided to take his riding mower on the road. Another problem is that the man who’d had his license revoked was on his way home from the gas station where he’d picked up more beer. And the final, and biggest, problem is that the man was driving the mower drunk.

Police were notified by witnesses that the man was weaving in and out of traffic on the riding mower. Police tried to stop the man, but he drove into his front yard reportedly spilling Milwaukee’s Best along the way.

Things the man should not have done are obviously drive his riding mower drunk. He should have also stopped when the police showed up. Now he’s facing a second DUI charge and bonded out on $10,000.

Another story to shake your head at. However, if you remove all the window dressing, this is essentially a story about a guy who drove drunk and got a DUI. Most people will likely avoid getting another DUI once they’ve been convicted of their first. There are some who may repeat the mistake and have to face the consequences. Unless they have an experienced DUI defense lawyer.

The attorneys at the Umansky Law Firm have defended many people who were facing charges of DUI and were able to have the charges reduced. Everyone deserves to be defended by knowledgeable lawyers who will fight for your right, no matter what the charge.

If you are in the Orange, County or Orlando, Florida area and have been charged with DUI or another crime, please contact the experienced criminal defense lawyers at the Umansky Law Firm for an initial consultation.

21 Arrested for Alleged Drug Use and Sale at Church Event

Police in Pennsylvania executed a search warrant on the third day of the Church of Universal Love and Music’s “Funk Fest” and arrested 21 people on a variety of drug charges Saturday, August 1. Police allege that at two different events held in May and July, they witnessed people openly using and selling drugs, as well as head shops where drug paraphernalia was sold. As a result, they returned to the August event.

The raid took place on the church leader’s land in Acme. The leader had filed a religious rights lawsuit in March and was granted the right to hold a number of concerts on his land. While neighbors complained about traffic and noise, authorities were more concerned about illegal drug use.

Undercover officers allege that they never asked for drugs as they walked among the patrons, but that people simply approached them and offered to sell on the spot. They also observed people smoking marijuana in the open.

The 21 arrested face charges that range from misdemeanor drug possession to felony possession with intent to deliver. Authorities allegedly found large amounts of marijuana, LSD, and hallucinogenic mushrooms.

While this event was being held by a non-denominational Christian church that says its live music events are religious services, they’re still going to be seen as simply gatherings of people to see music. Anyone who has ever been to a live show knows there are people there who will be partaking of illegal narcotics. It sort of goes with the territory and, though most people are there to enjoy the music legally, the few who light up joints will usually leave those who don’t get high alone. However, the police obviously see these types of gatherings differently. There to enforce the law means that those who may be smoking marijuana are breaking the law and will be prosecuted. Those who are caught selling drugs will face even more serious charges.

If you are into seeing live music, do so responsibly. However, if you are arrested and charged with possession or sale of narcotics at one of these shows, you will need the help of an experienced criminal defense attorney. In Orange County or Orlando, Florida, please contact the Umansky Law Firm for an initial consultation. We also serve clients all over the state of Florida.
